Things to Know Before Choosing an Asphalt Contractor

There are tons of options on the market today when it comes to creating a drivable surface to get into your house or garage. Some driveways are more ecstatically pleasing then others, while some are more costly. When choosing asphalt for your home driveway, you are choosing the perfect blend of drivability, esthetics, cost, and maintenance.

There are some things you to need when looking for a contractor to pave your driveway.

1.       Find a contractor that is reputable in your community- Often times, something as simple as asking your neighbors some questions about who paved their driveway will give you some leads. If your neighbors aren’t any help, the internet is a great way to find reviews on local businesses. Angie’s List and the Better Business Bureau are just a couple of great online resources that will allow you to find a paving contractor with a great reputation.

2.       The Cheapest isn’t always the best value- Even though one asphalt contractor may offer a cheaper price, be sure to have each paving contractor tell you specifically what they are giving you in their bid, so that way you can compare apples to apples.  A contractor may have a slightly cheaper price, but you may be getting less material, or a thinner spread of asphalt. This will lead to a quicker deterioration of your asphalt driveway, and will end up costing you more money in asphalt maintenance and repair in the long run.

3.       What is the asphalt contractors warranty- Each asphalt contractor should warranty their work. The length of asphalt warranty may vary from contractor to contractor, but a typical warranty is for 1 year. If asphalt contractor does not offer a warranty for their work, this is a good sign you should stay away from that company.

These are just a few things to look for when selecting a asphalt contractor. The more research you do the more informed you will be to select a better asphalt contractor.

NEVER buy asphalt from a walkup door to door salesman!  This is a SCAM!  These fly-by-night pavers go door to door overcharging many people in a neighborhood, do poor quality work, and then pack up and leave.

Whether you are in San Antonio , New Braunfels, Spring Branch, or Bulverde, make sure to give Luke's Asphalt a call before choosing a paving contractor or getting your parking lot sealed or striped.

It's good to know that I shouldn't be automatically looking for the cheapest contractor around. Because I am on a tight budget, I usually tend to look for things with the best value. However, I'll be sure to make sure that I choose a contractor who can offer a decent price while also ensuring that the spread and material of the asphalt is high quality.

I like that you recommend to ask your neighbors who they used to pay their driveways. I can see why this would help you find a paver that best fits your needs. My wife and I have been talking about repaving our driveway because there are some cracks in it. I'll have to ask the people around our house who they have used in the past and if they would recommend them.

I like your suggestion to make sure that when you compare the quotes that different asphalt services give you, you are looking at the exact same materials and work. My husband and I are going to put in a new asphalt driveway and we are wondering how to find the best contractor to help us. We will definitely make sure that when we compare estimates from contractors, we will be looking at the same types of services.

My wife and I are wanting to expand our driveway soon to fit both our cars, but we aren't sure how to find a good contractor. I like that you mention how, just because one contractor is cheaper than the other, doesn't mean it's the best value. I don't want to risk getting less material that is spread thinly, so I'll be sure to ask about pricing right away.

I appreciate your tip to hire a contractor that is well-reviewed by others within your community. I like how you said that they should also change a fair price for a fair amount and quality of work provided by them. My husband and I are considering hiring good paving contractors to fix the asphalt on our driveway; thanks for the tips on what qualifications to look for.

The road in front of my house is getting pretty beat up, and we were thinking about hiring someone to come take care of it. I love that you say to do more research to be informed. It would be nice to know that you won't have to worry about not knowing what is going on.

Thanks for letting us know that a great driveway asphalt contractor will offer us a warranty that lasts about a year. My husband and I are planning on remodeling our driveway, so we are wondering how to find the best service to help us. We will definitely have to find an asphalt contractor with a warranty that lasts at least a year.

Thanks for noting the cheapest isn't always the best option. You want to find someone you can trust, and if the price is a little higher, then that's what it costs. With something like pavement that you want to last for a long time, you don't want to take chances.

It's great that this article talks about how it's important to know the specifics of what the paving contractor is giving you for the price so that you can compare the different options. This could help you get the best services for the best prices. A great way to learn more about their specific services would be to call or meet with the paving contractors so that you can discuss what they offer and see if it's what you want.

I totally agree that one should work with an asphalt paving contractor that has enough experience and good reputation, which can be confirmed by looking at reviews or even checking on Better Business Bureau. One of the roads close to my house appears to be rough and is in need of asphalt paving. I'll suggest it to our neighborhood so that those who have an authority in that area can get in touch with an asphalt paving contractor as soon as possible.

I heard that my parents are looking for paving contractors to work for them. They bought a commercial property where they will open a convenience store. However, the parking area is damaged, so they have to get it repaired before opening the store. I like that you listed tips on how to find a good contractor and how you mentioned that a typical warranty for any contractor should be for a year which is one of the things that they should consider before hiring one. Thanks!

Our parking area has cracks and potholes already because of the rainy weather. It was discussed here that we should find a contractor that has a good reputation in our community. Furthermore, it's advisable to hire professional paving contractors.

Thanks for the tip about finding a paving service that offers at least a one year warranty. Finding a company that offers a warranty would show that they trust their own product. My husband and I need our driveway seal coated, so we'll have to find out about their warranty first.

It really is important to check on the contractor's warranty, especially if you're having them do your parking lot. After all, the parking lot is one of the first impressions your customers have of your business. Because of this, you'll want to make sure that the contractor does a good job of paving your parking lot and will redo it if they do a bad job.

Thanks for explaining that we should ask each contractor what their price includes to make sure you're not getting less than you expect. My husband and I have an older home that currently only has a dirt driveway, so we've been thinking about having an asphalt driveway put in soon. I wasn't sure what questions to ask as we try to pick a contractor, so your tip to as about the details of the price estimate is really appreciated!

I thought it was great how you mentioned that you should ask your neighbors and check online for reviews about a paving contractor to check to see if they're reputable. My father has been in the process of renovating his entire home so that he can raise its value and sell it, and he wants to hire a contractor to repave his driveway and front porch. It would be good for him to find a contractor who he is comfortable with to ensure that the job is done efficiently and accurately.
